India's squad for the 2025 Women's World Cup includes five promising young players. These athletes, ranging from a standout medium pacer to a versatile all-rounder, are expected to play pivotal roles in the team's journey.
Announcement of the Squad
On August 19, during a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Neetu David, the chief selector for the senior women's team, announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup 2025. The selection committee largely retained the team that recently faced England in an ODI series.
Tournament Kickoff
The Women in Blue, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, will commence their quest for the World Cup title against Sri Lanka on September 30. The squad features five young talents poised to make a significant impact during the tournament.
Spotlight on Kranti Goud
Kranti Goud is being hailed as a future star in Indian women's cricket. The medium pacer from Madhya Pradesh earned her spot in the World Cup squad following an impressive performance in the ODI series against England, where she took nine wickets, including a remarkable six-wicket haul, averaging 15.11.
In the decisive fifth ODI, Goud's exceptional figures of 6/52 in 9.5 overs were instrumental in India's 13-run victory, showcasing her as a key bowler alongside Deepti Sharma, Renuka Thakur, and Radha Yadav.
Pratika Rawal's Role
Pratika Rawal has established herself as a dependable opener, partnering with Smriti Mandhana. Following the exclusion of Shafali Verma due to inconsistent performances, Rawal has stepped up since her ODI debut against the West Indies in December 2024.
With 703 runs, including a century and five fifties at an average of 54.07 across 14 matches, Rawal's recent form against England was less than ideal, scoring 65 runs at an average of 21.66. However, she has the opportunity to regain her form in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
Amanjot Kaur's Potential
Amanjot Kaur's inclusion as a bowling all-rounder is significant, especially after stepping in for the injured Pooja Vastrakar. Kaur had a strong T20 series against England, taking 13 wickets and scoring an unbeaten 63 in one match.
Although she was sidelined during the ODI series due to injury, her condition is improving, and she is expected to resume bowling soon. A fit Kaur could be crucial for India, contributing both with the ball and bat.
Shree Charani's Impact
The 21-year-old left-arm spinner, Shree Charani, earned her place in the squad after an outstanding performance in the T20 series against England, where she was named Player of the Series with 10 wickets.
Despite a less impressive ODI series, where she took only three wickets, Charani's ability to secure key wickets and maintain tight bowling lines makes her a valuable asset, especially in home conditions.
Arundhati Reddy's Consistency
Arundhati Reddy, a 28-year-old pacer, has consistently performed well in domestic cricket and has been a part of India's white-ball setup since 2018. In her ODI career, she has taken 11 wickets, including a four-wicket haul, with an average of 32.54.
Reddy's ability to take crucial wickets during middle overs and contribute with the bat adds depth to the squad, reinforcing the selectors' confidence in her capabilities.
